ISLAMABAD: On Monday, President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received farewell visits from the departing Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
The prime minister praised the departing chief's contributions to the Pakistan Army, national defense, and national interests during his meeting with him, according to a statement from the PM's Office.
The removal of Pakistan off the FATF's (Financial Action Task Force) grey list, the coronavirus pandemic, and floods are just a few of the crises that the army has responded to admirably under the command of Gen. Bajwa, the prime minister stated.
The premier remarked that Gen. Bajwa assumed command as the army commander amid "one of history's worst periods," adding that under his guidance, the armed forces vanquished the threat of terrorism with valor and bravery.
"Additionally, Gen. Bajwa was crucial in fortifying Pakistan's defense. The approach for addressing security issues was determined by [his] leadership in a challenging regional context."
The prime minister also acknowledged the army chief's geoeconomic services, noting that all political parties would need to ratify a "charter of the economy" to guarantee that Pakistan develops into a powerful economic force.
The prime minister addressed COAS Bajwa, "You received the honor of heading the world's greatest army."
The prime minister's complete participation in the conduct of national affairs was appreciated by the departing head in return.
The army commander visited President Dr. Arif Alvi at the Aiwan-e-Sadar before visiting the prime minister, according to a statement from the President's Secretariat.
In the meeting, the president praised Gen. Bajwa's work in the defense sector and expressed gratitude for his support of both the nation and the Pakistan Army.
Gen. Bajwa received the president's warmest wishes for success in his future endeavors.
Gen Asim Munir, who was chosen to succeed COAS Bajwa last week, will get the "baton of command" from COAS Bajwa on November 29 (tomorrow).
